take a kid fishing

After several years of donating fishing charters to Mission Fishin’, Katie Lewis discovered a growing anticipation each time she prepared to host these families onto the water. Seeing a child beaming with pride after they catch a fish or the smile of a child in a wheelchair as they feel the movement of the ocean under them gives Katie a profound sense of joy and gratitude.

These outings also offer the siblings of the children with disabilities an opportunity to partake in a memorable family adventure. Often, families with a disabled child devote a significant amount of time to their care, making these outdoor excursions equally valuable for the siblings and parents alike.

Furthermore, recognizing Marathon’s status as home to some of the world’s finest sportfishing, Katie believed that the locals deserved a Sailfish tournament of their own. Driven by her conviction that “giving back is extremely important, and when you are granted that opportunity, you must take it,” Katie established the Marathon Premier Sailfish Tournament non-profit organization.

Each year, two days of catch and release sailfishing is followed by an awards banquet with great food and drink to celebrate the winners and raise money for great organizations like Mission Fishin’.
